About Bhai Dooj / Bhai Tika
Sisters put tika on their brothers and pray for their long life. Nepal's Bhai Tika uses an official auspicious time announced in Nepal time.
Also called: Bhai Tika, Bhau Beej, Bhai Phota, Yama Dwitiya.
How the date is decided
Bhai Dooj / Bhai Tika falls on Shukla tithi 2 of the lunar month (purnimanta naming). The day is the one on which the tithi covers aparahna, the fourth fifth of the daytime (afternoon). Times are computed for each city's latitude, longitude and time zone (daylight saving included).
Different families and temples follow different traditions (for example Smarta vs Vaishnava, or Nepal's official list). When in doubt, follow your family priest or local temple.
